If specified, <em>local_hostname</em> is used as the FQDN of the local host in the HELO/EHLO command. Otherwise, the local hostname is found using <a class="reference internal" href="socket.html#socket.getfqdn" title="socket.getfqdn"><code class="xref py py-func docutils literal notranslate"><span class="pre">socket.getfqdn()</span></code></a>.
